James is a consultant solicitor who qualified in 1974. He joined Darton Law to introduce a Conveyancing department which has successfully been achieved, with Darton Law now having a number of clients in this area.
This has formed the main area of his caseload throughout his many years of practice. This means that Darton Law are now able to act for our clients on various aspects of Property matters
James has long experience in both residential and commercial Conveyancing and has acted for all major mortgage panels.
James has experience in both freehold and leasehold sales and purchases.
He has specialised in Lease Extensions, which are becoming more common on property sales, where there is an insufficient term of years for marketability. Where necessary, this has involved applications for determination to the Tribunal, and he has also advised on Collective Enfranchisement.
James has acted on mortgages and re-mortgages. He has experience on transfer of property equity, shared ownership and tenancy agreements. He also has experience of buying and selling land, and new build.

Darton Law having obtained Lexcel accreditation with the Law Society, have also now been awarded CQS accreditation for residential conveyancing transactions. James has been accredited as a CQS solicitor since inception of the scheme in 2011.
Other experience
James has always worked in general practice, where he has been involved in other areas of the law (such as company and family law, probate and wills), so that he has had the widest experience for his Conveyancing clients – to be able to offer a full service to them, fully considering their overall circumstances. Often a family or probate matter also concerned property, where James could assist with his Conveyancing experience.
Hobbies
James spends most of his spare time relaxing on his narrowboat, but also plays tennis and the guitar when he can. He also enjoys photography and video editing.
